Some
countries allow old people to work to any age they want. Do the advantages of
this outweigh disadvantages?
In many
countries senior citizens are permitted to be the part of workforce as long as they
want. I believe that it is a positive gesture of authorities in many nations to
allow elderly men and women to work. However, some of its drawbacks are clearly
evident.
To begin
with, permitting old people to work as long as they want is a deliberate
decision of many nations. It is because old age people have right to work and
they can retire when they want. Apart from this, this may be the fact that
retired people feel loneliness and stressed at home. If they don’t participate
as working class, they face many health issues and nations have to provide them
medical and financial support. While they are working, they are able to manage
their expenses themselves and contribute to national economy in the form of
taxes.
Another
significant benefit is senior citizens have gained expertise and experience
which could make a huge difference at workplace. However, some of its demerits
cannot be overlooked. One of them is competition in job market, young people
face cut throat competition when they venture out to work in public and private
sectors. That’s why many nations have fixed retirement age for old people. So,
young people could find employment and fulfill their needs and dreams. Due to lack of jobs, young people migrate to other
nations for career. It could be detrimental to economic and social health of a
particular nation in a long run.
