Cambridge IELTS Book 16 Speaking Test- 1

Part -1

People you study or work with

Who do you spend most time studying or working with? Why?

Honestly Speaking, I like studying alone; I don’t want to be disturbed. Sometimes I study with my elder brothers because he helps me with my study. If anything that I don’t understand, he explains and I get along with it. During the exam times I join the group of my classmates.

Work-

I spend almost 8 hours of the day with my colleagues. I work in a multi-national organization and it has around 100 workers where I work.  It is the culture of the company to work together and spend time doing whatever is assigned collectively.

What kinds of things do you study / work on with other people? Why

I study my college subjects, I have opted to study , English , Hindi, Math and  Politics. I don’t have time to study something out of the curriculum because we have to complete many assignments.  We are also bound to have Environmental studies as a subject. Studying together makes its easy and productive.

My work involves looking for customers to buy electronic gadgets online and offline. We are 5 members in a team who work together to achieve daily and monthly targets. We send offers to prospects and ask them if they are interested. We record their views and send to senior manager. This is the usually work routine.

Are there times when you study / work better by yourself? Why/ Why not?

Most of the time I study better when I am alone, because I don’t get carried away whatever we study in a group or with family members. I explore the different aspects of the topic I am studying and I come off with positive result.

It is not so, I am not able to handle the work alone and bring positive outcomes. I have tried to work better by myself but I failed. Whenever we have some colleagues on leave than I finish the work satisfactorily otherwise I need help.

Is it important to like the people you study / work with? Why / Why not?

I think it is crucial; we must have health relationship with the people we study. In this cut throat competitive era, we need co-operation to advance in our life. if we hold the bitterness for the people we study . It may create chaos.

Work

Yes it is significant to have positive outlook for the people we work with. If we deal with people having negativity in our mind it pops in our behavior and may bring us bad reputation at the workplace. Having positive images of people in our mind can help us build better relationship which is mutually beneficial.

Describe a tourist attraction you enjoyed visiting

You should say-

What this tourist attraction is

When and why you visited

What you did there

And explain why you enjoyed visiting this tourist attraction

As I come from India , the country has many tourists spots where people visit from all over the world. Kashmir is famously known as heaven on the early and we are blessed to have many historical monuments in the country.

Here I would like to have talk about seventh wonder of the world – THE TAJ MAHAL; it is made of white marble. I would say that it is an  epic centre of the architecture. It was built by a Mugal Emperor in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaj mahal. The place derived the name from the wife of the emperor.

It was in 2019 , when I was invited by my friend to attend his marriage . Fortunately his hometown happens to be Agra where The Taj Mahal is located. I attended his marriage and next morning I left for Agra. I reached the taj mahal around 10:00 Am.

I spent around hours there , I was mesmerized to see breathtaking architecture. The white marble shines in the sun and , touched and tried to feel it. I clicked many pictures by my cell phone.

I really felt happy spending time over there. it attracts numerous tourists every day. People from every corner of the world come to see this place. This place is properly sanitized and special care is taken to maintain the whitishness of the marble.  I felt happy to see the seventh wonder of the world. which makes our country in the topic list of international visitors.

Vocabulary and Root Words

What are the most popular tourist attractions in your country?

We are blessed to have many places where national and international tourists visit throughout the year. Kurukshetra the land of Mahabharata , Mathura and Varindavan birth and work place of Lord Krishna , The Golden Temple , The Taj Mahal and so on. My country offers breathtaking and inspiring tourists attractions which hold high values socially and religiously.

How do the types of tourist attractions that younger people like to visit with those that older people like to visit?

Young people in my country love to visit hill stations , beaches and where they can spend their time viewing spectacular landscapes. Mostly they go in group and visit the popular sights which attract  young boys and girls. If I talk about my country , the young people go to ‘Goa to enjoy the beaches. Shimla , Jammu and Kashmir and Ooty are very favorite among them. If I talk about old people they go to visit religious places like Haridwar, Kashi , Ayodha , The Golden Temple. If it is a family trip there we see young and old people visiting the places where they can spend their vacations.

Do you agree that some tourist attractions like national museums or galleries should be free to visit?

Yes, such places should be free for students only not for all. Students cannot afford the ticket price , many students don’t visit because the entry is not free for them. They don’t come to know the history and arts in galleries. If such places are made free to all , I think this will not go for a long time, in museums people are employed to take care of it . they must be provided their remunerations. Those who are not students they should be charged so museums and galleries could have funds to pay for the maintenances and workers.

The importance of international tourism

Example questions

Why is tourist important to a country?

I think tourists are crucial to boost local economy and take the culture beyond boarders. We often come to listen about different tourist spots and culture. If I talk about my hometown it has some historical monuments where national and international visitors come in numbers. It helps my hometown to welcome them and spread the words about the rich historical values and significance. Many local people are employed they earn their livelihood by serving and selling different items to tourists.

What are the benefits to individuals of visiting another country as  tourists?

It broadens the personal horizon and allows you learn something about people and place you are visiting. More people are travelling to every corner of the world to enjoy and experience the world. When someone goes to another country as a tourist, he has opportunities to learn and experience about that he has heard. It also gives chances to mingle with the people of different culture and languages.

Now necessary is it for tourists to learn the language of the country they are visiting.

I believe more people learn a foreign language for visiting purpose than to have benefits professionally. I think it is a good idea to learn the language of the country one is visiting. It help him connects well and explore the depth of the place. Some people hire tourist’s guides that cost them dear. They have to see through the eyes of tourist guides. It may not serve the purpose. But if one has learnt the language it is good.
